With a mustache that resembles Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot facial fuzz and a shock of curly hair, Ewan McGregor plays a complex character in the new eight-episode Paramount+ series A Gentleman in Moscow. View the initial teaser trailer here:
Based on the best-selling book A Gentleman by Amor Towles McGregor plays Count Alexander Rostov in Moscow, a Russian aristocrat who has been living a luxurious life up until the time we meet him. Trying to secure his future and defend his former life, he finds himself on trial amid the Russian Revolution, right in the middle of everything. He escapes death but is instead sent to a dingy attic room in the otherwise lavish Hotel Metropol, with a warning that he would be executed if he ventures outside.
However, Rostov learns that the hotel has its own set of advantages, such as a friendship with young Nina (Alexa Goodall), who is the key to all the hidden opportunities the property offers, and perhaps even a more romantic relationship with the glitzy, self-made film actress Anna Urbanova (also known as Ahsoka star and McGregor’s real-life partner, Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
The series, which also stars Fehinti Balogun and Johnny Harris, premieres onParamount+ on March 29.
