Construction of the Hamz Nakivubo stadium thrilled the First Lady.

First lady Janet Museveni, who also serves as the minister of education and sports, is thrilled with the development of Hamz Nakivubo stadium, which was renovated in front of the 2027 AFCON tournament by businessman Hamis Kiggundu under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement.

The NRM administration is thrilled to witness how our youth are starting to establish Uganda via initiatives like these. We applaud Ham Kiggundu for his outstanding work,” Mrs. Museveni stated.

The First Lady also expressed her gratitude to Hamis Kiggundu for his significant contribution to enhancing the nation’s sporting facilities.

“I congratulate Ham on this truly remarkable achievement, and this incredible partnership between the government and the private sector showcases the NRM’s commitment to fostering youth involvement in national development,” Janet Museveni said.

It is anticipated that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni would open the stadium.

In addition to installing the seats and playing field, the engineers have also built goalposts and set the framework for the floodlights.

A Swiss firm with a FIFA license that specializes in goal-line technology recently evaluated the stadium in order to determine whether goal-line equipment might be installed at the 35,000-seat venue.

President Museveni gave his approval for Nakivubo’s redevelopment in 2015, but work on the project didn’t start until 2021. When it comes to the stadium, it will feature conference and boardroom spaces, locker rooms, indoor game rooms, an athletic track, a gym, basketball, netball, and basketball courts, as well as multi-level parking for up to 9,600 cars.

Together with Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda won the bid to host the AFCON in 2027, and one of the venues designated for the competition is Nakivubo.
The Minister complimented the UPDF construction staff for a job well done during his additional tour of Mandela (Namboole) stadium.
