Jimmy’s younger brother, Bill Haslam, later became the governor of Tennessee (2011-2019). Jimmy graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he shared a room with future U.S. Senator Bob Corker.

Jimmy Haslam’s career with Pilot Corporation began in 1976 as vice president of sales, development, and operations. Based in Knoxville, the company grew into one of the largest travel center chains in the U.S. By the time Jimmy became president and CEO in 1996, Pilot had expanded to 96 travel centers and 50 convenience stores. In 2001, Pilot Corporation merged with Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, forming Pilot Travel Centers LLC. In 2008, CVC Capital Partners acquired a 49.8% stake in the company, with Pilot retaining 50% ownership.
Cleveland Browns Ownership
In 2008, Jimmy initially bought a minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, in August 2012, he and Dee purchased the Cleveland Browns from Randy Lerner for $1.05 billion. Due to NFL regulations against owning stakes in multiple teams, Jimmy sold his share of the Steelers. Today, the Cleveland Browns are valued at a minimum of $3 billion.
