History

MikroTik was established in 1996 with the goal of developing networking solutions for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The company leveraged industry-standard PC hardware to create RouterOS, a proprietary software system introduced in 1997. In 2002, MikroTik expanded into hardware manufacturing and introduced the RouterBOARD brand, which featured dedicated hardware for networking and Internet connectivity.
